Understanding Job presented by Dr. Israel McGrew
The Catholic Bible Institute presents a Saturday morning lecture, Understanding Job, with Dr. Israel McGrew of the Augustine Institute. Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 10am to 11:30am Pacific Time Via Zoom
In this talk, we will explore the literature and theology of the book of Job and its place in the biblical canon and divine teaching. As literature, we will examine Job's structure and features and its representation of Israel's religious traditions. We will examine its major theological themes and patterns, in Job's framing of the problems of evil and human ignorance and in its speculations about the afterlife and the ultimate significance of human suffering. And we will situate the book in the unfolding of the divine teaching, in its historical context and in its anticipation of the revelation of Christ's incarnation, passion, and resurrection.
Please join the Catholic Bible Institute as we host Dr. Israel McGrew from the Augustine Institute, an Old Testament scholar and specializes in the Book of Job and is currently writing a book on Job's dramatization of Israel's scriptural and mythological traditions titled, The Riddle of Job: Parabolic Argumentation in the Book of Job.
