Nature and Purpose of Catechesis 

Goal 6  Authentic Presentation of the Christian Message to have a clear understading of how the Church, animated by the Holy Spirit, is sent as the teacher of faith.

Objectives: The Learner - Catechist will:

  1. Christ is the Center of the Gospel message. 
  2. Demonstrate how Scripture and Tradition are the source for the life and teaching of the Incarnate Word, our Savior. 
  3. Explain the Trinitarian dimension of the Gospel message.
  4. Communicate the profound dignity of the human person. 
  5. Foster a common language of the faith.
  6. Faithfully teach the doctrine and traditions of the Catholic Church.                   

Methodology - Divine Methodology 

Goal 1 To be able to articulate that Divine Methodology is the transmission of the Knowledge of faith by God's own methodology - through the Father's self-revelation in Jesus Christ and through the Holy Spirit - Divine Methodology is and will always remain the model for all human methodologies.

Objectives: The learner - catechist will: 

  1. Understand that we are called to ministry through the community of faith.
  2. Be able to explain that Jesus is the ideal catechist and how the Emmaus story illustrates Jesus' methodology
  3. understand and witness to how God's grace and self-revelation
  4. underlies all efforts in catechesis   
  5. understand that catechesis depends on the Holy Spirit's actions in people's lives, bringing them to a deeper faith

Meg Ferguson

Megan Kanatzar Ferguson, D.Min. is the Curriculum Coordinator at the Catholic Apostolate Center. She helps develop online course materials and curricula and assists with the development of Catholic Apostolate Center Publications.

Megan graduated from the Catholic University of America in 2024 with her Doctor of Ministry degree (D.Min.). She holds two Master's degrees in Theology from Newman University in Wichita, Kansas, and the University of Notre Dame, respectively. Megan is a graduate of the Echo program from the University of Notre Dame, and she has five years of teaching theology at the high school level. She currently resides in Yukon, Oklahoma, with her husband, Connor, and their three children.
