 Catechesis in the Lives of Persons  

Course Summary

This course offers reasonable pathways of catechesis that vary based on the participants' different needs, ages, and states of life as directed in the Directory for Catechesis (2020) and all General and National Documents for catechesis.  

 

Course Objectives: 

Adult Faith Formation in the General and National Catechetical Documents. Adults to Whom Catechesis is Directed need to:   

  1. understand the importance of learning through human experience and how through reflecting upon our experiences we come to meet and know God in our lives; (fulfillment of divine methodology)
  2. understand how the parish community serves as an effective catechetical agent.
  3. be able to explain how the first experiences of Christian community and faith are found in the primary environment of the Christian family and that the parents are the primary catechists for their children in matters of faith.
  4. demonstrate through their Christian life and experiences that they are a witness to faith and an example of learning about faith by others.

Professor: Dr. Daniella Zsuspan-Jerome 

Dr. Daniella Zsupan-Jerome, Ph.D. is Director of Ministerial Formation and Field Education at Saint John's University School of Theology and Seminary in Collegeville, Minnesota.  Dr. Zsupan-Jerome teaches in the areas of Pastoral theology, Religious Education and Catechesis, and Pastoral Communication. Her research explores the intersection of social communication, digital culture, and pastoral theology. She has served as a consultant to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' Committee on Communications, as an educational consultant to the Catholic Media Association, and as a tutor for the Vatican’s Dicastery for Communication Faith Communication in a Digital Age project. Education: Ph.D., Theology and Education - Boston College, M.A., Liturgical Studies - Saint John's School of Theology and Seminary, M.A., Religion and the Arts - Yale Divinity School, B.A., Theology - University of Notre Dame.
