Methodology: Adult Learning - Multiple Intelligences - Learning Styles 

Course Summary

 

This course will help participants become familiar with the principles of adult faith formation as highlighted in Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us. The course will cover the various styles of learning and how to incorporate various teaching styles to meet the diversity of needs among a group of learners in a faith formation setting. 

Class Objectives: The participant will be able to:

  • Be Familiar with:
    • The General Principles of Adult Faith Formation for planning, conducting and inculturating adult faith formation. 
  • Be familiar with concepts relating to the various developmental skills of learners and how each stage can affect the learners' abilities to grasp and process knowledge:
    • cognitive
    • psycho-social 
    • Moral 
    • Faith.
  • Be familiar with concepts relating to learner styles and multiple intelligences of learners and strive to incorporate activities addressing these concepts throughout the catechetical process. 
  • Understand and demonstrate the need to incorporate the methods and techniques during a catechetical session (experiential learning vs. didactic learning)

Professor: Kay Harter   

Kay Harter is a Master Catechist serving the ADLA Archdiocese, currently supporting ORE efforts to expand Online Learning opportunities for catechists in the archdiocese.  She completed the University of Dayton VLCFF Certificate in Adult Formation Leadership in 2010 and has facilitated VLCFF courses in Adult Formation. Kay is also a graduate of the ADLA Catholic Bible Institute and served as the Director of Evangelization for the San Fernando Region from 2013 - 2015.
