Newcomers to the United States are too often turned into political pawns, and we are bombarded with “facts” from competing sources, each with its own agenda. In this workshop we will explore and debunk some of the common myths regarding newcomers and immigration law in the United States and we will consider the faith perspective as we examine scripture and Catholic social teaching.
Sr. Sharlet Ann Wagner, CSC is a Sister of the Holy Cross and Executive Director of the Newcomer Network, Catholic Charities, Washington D.C. The Network brings attorneys and social workers together to holistically serve immigrants. Sr. Sharlet previously worked as an immigration attorney in Utah and California. She served on her Congregation's general leadership team and in the presidency of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR).
