In this workshop, we will discuss how the elements of liberation theology found in Black Sacred Song are gifts that are offered to all Catholics, all Christians. Using as an example the speech delivered by Sr. Thea Bowman in 1989 (“What Does it Mean to Be Black and Catholic”) this workshop will explore how the songs passed down from the enslaved and dispossessed are ways in which we can renew our faith and rejoice in the gifts that are available to us all.
