Friday, February 24 | Period 1 | 10:00am - 11:15am
In uncertain times, we can become lost, overwhelmed, and confused. This can not only become a problem for us but also for those who count on us because one of the greatest gifts we can share with others is a sense of our own inner peace, "but we can't share what we don't have!" In response to this danger, there are a number of simple, powerful spiritual and psychological approaches we can employ in mentoring ourselves for a few moments each day that can make all the difference in life and faith, even to the point where we can grow as persons in ways that would not have been possible had the stress, spiritual darkness, or trauma had not have happened in the first place. It is referred to as, "posttraumatic growth" (PTG) and the "spirituality of suffering".
Dr. Robert J. Wicks is a clinical psychologist and writer about he intersection of spirituality and psychology. He received spiritual mentoring from both Henri Nouwen and Flavian Burns (Thomas Merton's final Abbot), has spoken on resilience in 20 countries as well as at Harvard, Yale, the Mayo Clinic, and on Capitol Hill, and has published over 60 books including, "Do You Have a Moment?" (Paulist Press) and "Let's Look Together" (Orbis).
