In a time of media upheaval, the vicious spread of disinformation, the fear-driven anxieties around speaking publicly in a time of relentless scrutiny and attack, and confusion around the articulation of faith in the public square, the role of the Catholic public intellectual has never been so urgent and imperative.

Past president of three Catholic universities, award-winning documentarian, biographer of Thomas Merton, Jean Vanier, and Henri Nouwen, as well as co-author of, "The Jesuit Mystique and Power and Peril", Dr. Michael Higgins is also a regular columnist and contributor to several publications, including Commonweal, The Tablet of London, and The Globe and Mail. he is currently under contract for a book on Pope Francis.
