7-04: Music for Celebrating the Sacraments with Children and Families

Sunday, February 26 | Period 7 | 10:00am - 11:15am

Music enhances the celebration of the Sacraments with elementary age children, their families, and the wider Catholic community. As a formative tool in sacramental preparation, music can assist in the reinforcing of Scripture, doctrine, and the unique significance and grace of each sacrament. In worship, music can actively engage those present, awaken emotions, and unify the faith of the assembled believers. In this workshop, Australian Catholic composer John Burland will present a variety of music for deepening understanding and knowledge of the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.

John Burland is an educator and composer of religious music for children and adults. He has written and recorded over 300 songs and published 15 music collections internationally. John is the Education Officer: Archdiocesan Liturgical Music for Sydney Catholic Schools, Australia, and the National Music Consultant for Bayard, Inc. During his extensive career, John has worked as a classroom teacher, Assistant and Acting Principal, and a Religious Education Coordinator in school and parish communities. He is a regular speaker at conferences and gatherings across Australia, North America, the United Kingdom and New Zealand.
