7-02: Helping Young People Discover their Gifts and Charisms

Sunday, February 26 | Period 7 | 10:00am - 11:15am

When we confront challenging times in our world, our hope can disappear from our hearts. However, if we look at the history of our faith, it is precisely during these difficult times that grace comes alive in the gifts of our young people. Pope Francis says: "Dear young people, do not bury your talents, the gifts that God has given you! Do not be afraid to dream of great things!" Our call as parents, catechists, teachers and youth ministers is to help our young people to become more aware of their unique gifts and that by doing so, God will abundantly pour grace into our families and faith communities. During this session, we will learn different exercises to help guide our young people to discover their gifts and charisms and to put them in service to the Church and the world.

As Program Director of the Thriving in Ministry Initiative, Katherine Angulo Valenzuela directs four important outreach efforts. She works to prepare pastoral leaders for long-term ministry; provides intellectual and spiritual renewal for invited diocesan priests; is partnering with Iskali to create cultures of affiliation in the U.S. Hispanic Catholic Church.  The fourth initiative seeks to re-propose the Holy Family of Nazareth as the foundation for catechetical renewal within the domestic Hispanic Church.  Katherine received her B.A. in Modern Languages and her M.A. in Pastoral Ministries. She has more than 22 years of experience in parish and diocesan ministry.
