6-05: Signs and Symbols of the Initiation Sacraments: Lessons on Discipleship from the Ritual

Saturday, February 25 | Period 6 | 2:45pm - 4:00pm

As we celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation, we experience the transformative power of the ritual. The signs and symbols of the liturgy "touch and move a person to conversion of heart and not simply to enlightenment of mind". How do they form us as disciples? What do they call us to be and to do? How can we use them in celebration so that they may "strengthen faith and lead people to God?" (Built of Living Stones, 26).  In this session, participants will experience a way to include liturgical catechesis in their sacramental formation programs.

Michael Ruzicki is the Director of Sacred Music and Liturgy at St. Mary of the Lake and Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Chicago, as well as the Training and Events Manager at Liturgy Training Publications. He is the author of. "Guide for Training Initiation Ministers: An Introduction to the RCIA" (LTP, 2018) and a former team member of the North American Forum on the Catechumenate. He currently leads both LTP's Catechumeneon initiative and serves as the emcee and conference coordinator for the National Gathering on Christian Initiation.
