5-02: Unleashing the Gifts of Women for a Synodal Church

Saturday, February 25 | Period 5 | 1:00pm - 2:15pm

Pope Francis and the Vatican have taken several steps in the last few years so that women's vocational gifts can flourish for the good of the Church's evangelizing mission. Recent changes include reform of the curia, the installation of women as lectors and acolytes, and the creation of the lay ministry of catechists as a vocation. In this workshop, we will take a look at how this is part of the wider synodal journey for the renewal of the Church in the third millennium.

Ellie Hidalgo, co-director of Discerning Deacons, has been training and accompanying synod ambassadors who animate synod consultations at their local parishes, colleges and through other Catholic organizations across the U.S. She previously served as a pastoral associate for Dolores Mission Church, Los Angeles, where she worked in ministry for a dozen years.

Karen Luna is the Coordinator of Young Adult Ministry for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, accompanying and developing ministry leaders to form Missionary Disciples transforming the diverse church and world. She was appointed Synod Process Coordinator for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in 2021. Growing up in South Los Angeles, she is a first-generation graduate from Loyola Marymount University, receiving a B.A. and M.A. in Theology.
