Before the prophet Isaiah issues this invitation on behalf of the Lord, he says that it is God’s desire that his people learn to do good and seek justice. This Black Catholic sourcebook, The Fire This Time, offers ways the Catholic Church may examine the ways in which church leaders can foster open dialogue that makes space for true, authentic liturgy for Black Catholics that answers God’s call for us to do good and seek justice.
M. Roger Holland II is a Teaching Associate Professor and Director of The Spirituals Project at the Lamont School of Music, University of Denver. Holland serves as Liturgical Music Consultant for the Archdiocese of New York Office of Black Ministry. In November 2016, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archdiocese of New York, presented Holland with the Pierre Toussaint Medal for service. Holland is the editor of the In Spirit and Truth series published by GIA Publications, Inc., which reflects the aesthetic of Black Catholic Worship.
Kate Williams is the Vice President of Sacred Music at GIA Publications, Inc. She serves in the Archdiocese of Chicago and abroad, following a passion to serve in multicultural, multigenerational communities, while mentoring young voices and building bridges through music ministry.
